Phone Pirates Are on the Loose

Sly young man with a Pinocchio nose talking on mobile phone.

Imagine looking down at your phone and seeing an incoming call from our official number: 325-677-2274.

The voice on the line claims to be from the ATFCU Fraud Team, warning you that a highly suspicious charge just hit your account. To block it, they ask you to “verify your identity” by reading back the last 8 digits of your debit card or your online banking credentials.

It sounds incredibly convincing, but before you speak, recognize that you are dealing with a digital pirate trying to force you down a financial plank.

The Reality of Caller ID Spoofing

Modern fraudsters use sophisticated software to completely mask their real identity. They can trick your caller ID display into showing any name or number they want—including ours. Just because your screen says a call is coming from ATFCU does not mean it is actually us on the line.

To put it as bluntly as possible: we already securely hold your account details inside our system, so why would we ever call and ask you to supply them?

We utilize secure internal techniques to guard your identity. ATFCU staff will never call you out of the blue to demand passwords, usernames, card numbers, or one-time text verification codes.

How to Outsmart a Phone Pirate

  1. Hang Up: Do not stay on the line, do not argue, and do not let high-pressure tactics panic you. Simply end the call.
  2. Dial Us Back Directly: Manually dial our verified phone lines yourself: 325-677-2274 or 800-677-6770. This breaks the scammer’s connection and guarantees you are speaking safely with our real local team.

What to Do If You Already Shared Data

If you recently received one of these calls and realized too late that you gave out your information, speed is your best asset to minimize the damage.

Call our Security Department immediately at 325-677-2274 or 800-677-6770. We can instantly block your compromised card, block unauthorized transaction requests, reset your mobile banking access, and secure your household savings. Keep your guard up!
