Scam Texts – Beware of Weekends

Fraudulent text message on December 6, 2024.

Fraudsters consider weekends prime time because they know that most people are relaxed and not quite as vigilant as they are during the work week. This particular scam has circulated at least twice.  Since many people buy online, the scammers assume that tem-sw.com sounds generic and they might be able to fool you.

When a recipient taps on the link, he/she is taken to a fake “ATFCU” login page and asked to login. They enter their credentials and the page reports that they were typed incorrectly.  BUT, the scammer logged the key strokes. He can now access the recipient’s digital banking account.

Insider Tips

  1. The telephone number at the top of the message is not the credit union’s phone number
  2. The specified website tem-sw.com is not a part of the credit union’s website address.  The scammer added Abilenefcu to make it look legitimate.
