Checking Assistance

Debit Cards

Certainly!  You may use your cards anywhere VISA and/or Mastercard are accepted. ATFCU offers VISA debit cards and MasterCard credit cards.

We recommend that you advise us when you will be traveling.  You can contact us by phone or use the Card Management feature in digital banking to make us aware.  You'll find Card Management icon on the 'More' screen of the ATFCU app or in the 'Additional Services' section of desktop banking. 

Please come by one of our lobby locations to reset the PIN (personal identification number) on your card or we can order a PIN mailer to be sent to your address. To protect your personal security, we are unable to change the debit card PIN by phone.

  1. First, turn your debit or credit card off.  
    1. For those using our mobile app, locate the Card Management feature found on the ‘More’ screen. Swipe through the card images (which may or may not look like your card) and turn the card off using the toggle button under the card image.
    2. In desktop banking, click on the Card Management option in the 'Additional Services' menu. On the resulting screen, click the 'Switch or Add Card' heading. Select the card you want to work with and toggle it off.
  2. Then notify us.

      2. On evenings or weekends, please call 833-541-0777.
    2. Credit Cards
      1. During business hours, contact our Card Processing Department at 325-677-2274.

  3. Many situations can be resolved by reaching out to the merchant for an explanation and asking for a refund if appropriate
  4. If the merchant cannot or will not resolve the situation, contact our Card Processing Department at 325.677.2274 or 800.677.6770 during normal business hours.

Contact our Card Department during business hours for instructions or call the number found on the back of your card.

  • Card fraud is when your card number has been compromised and used by someone unknown to you.
  • A dispute is when you have done business with a merchant and want to dispute a transaction.

Use our  ATM Locator tool where you can locate a surcharge-free ATM near you.  There are almost 30,000 ATMs across the U.S. where you can use your Abilene Teachers FCU card free of charge.  If you see the CO-OP logo on the machine, you won’t be charged a fee by the machine operator or by the credit union.

Debit cards are automatically replaced at no charge every two years.  If you need to replace one sooner, there is a $5 fee.

  • Your card will work outside the United States.  Please remember to let us know of your travel plans in advance.
  • The foreign transaction fee is 1% of the total transaction.

This is dependent on how often a merchant submits their files to the financial Automated Clearing House (ACH).  The time frame can vary from a few moments to several days.

$500 per 24 hours. The limit is unchangeable at this time.

General Checking

To reorder checks you may contact a Member Service Representative or order online

 We run a ChexSystems report which identifies people with a troubled checking history.  A Restart Checking account may be an option for those in that category.

$25. Please keep in mind that there is no minimum balance requirement once the account is opened.

Due to the cooperative nature of credit union ownership, a savings account (which establishes membership) must be opened with at least a $5 deposit prior to opening any other type account. 

There are no fees for these services.

Overdraft Coverage

  • Overdraft Transfer: If funds are unavailable in your checking account, we will transfer available money from your savings account or personal line of credit loan to your checking account to cover the transaction.  There is no charge for this service. 
  • Overdraft Protection: If you choose this service, we will authorize your checking account to accept charges, even if the funds are not available, up to a pre-determined amount.  There is a $25 transaction fee for each charge submitted to your overdrawn account.

Restart Checking

There are no fees for these services.

  • Overdraft Transfer is available for Restart Checking accounts, if the funds are available in your savings account. 
  • Overdraft Protection is not available for Restart Checking accounts.

$25. Keep in mind that there is no minimum balance requirement once the account is opened.  However, there is a $5 monthly fee charged on the last day of each month.

No past fraud activity, no previous amounts owed to Abilene Teachers FCU, minimum age of 18.  Restart accounts are opened pending credit union approval.  Other restrictions may apply.
