Cut the Wires! Inter-Institution Transfers Now Available in Digital Banking

Scissors cutting computer wire

Moving money between different financial institutions used to mean writing yourself a paper check, waiting in long branch lines, or shelling out big bucks for an official bank wire.

If you own accounts at another bank or credit union within the United States, you can cut the wires entirely! ATFCU’s External Transfers feature allows you to securely link your outside accounts straight to your digital banking dashboard. Once connected, you can pull or push funds with just a few taps.

Because the system uses a secure micro-deposit verification process, the initial setup takes a few business days to activate. Grab your outside account details, open up your preferred device, and let’s walk through the setup step-by-step.

Phase 1: The Initial Connection Sequence

  • Step 1: Log into your secure digital banking portal. Your navigation path depends on your device:
    • On the Mobile App: Tap the ‘More’ icon on the lower right corner of your screen and select ‘External Transfers’.
    • On a Desktop Computer: Hover over the ‘Move Money’ heading on the top navigation bar and select ‘External Transfers’.
  • Step 2: Gather the exact routing number and account number for the outside financial institution you want to link. Follow the on-screen prompts to carefully type this information into the secure fields.
  • Step 3: Within two business days, our system will automatically fire off two random, micro-transfers (each less than $1.00) into your specified outside account. Check your outside bank statement, note those two exact amounts, and log back into your ATFCU External Transfers screen to type them in. Once confirmed, your link is officially live!

Phase 2: Scheduling and Fee Breakdowns

Once your outside account is securely anchored to your ATFCU profile, you can execute immediate one-time transfers or establish automated recurring schedules on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.

To help you track your household cash flow entries and save on overhead, keep this quick fee and timing guide handy:

💰 The External Savings Matrix

Transfer Direction
Processing Fee
Compared to a Domestic Wire
Bringing Money IN (Outside Institution ➔ ATFCU) $0.00 (Always Free) Saves you time and transit friction
Sending Money OUT (ATFCU ➔ Outside Institution) $4.00 $15.00 (An instant $11 savings!)

📅 A Quick Timing Note: External transfers are processed strictly on standard business weekdays. Transactions cannot be finalized on weekends or federal banking holidays, so make sure to schedule your mid-week dates with a little extra cushion!

Keep Your Cash Moving Seamlessly

Linking your cross-institutional accounts is one of the absolute best ways to simplify your monthly money organization. It gives you a clean, bird’s-eye view of your assets without the constant login hopscotch.

Once your external accounts are verified and flowing, you can monitor those incoming savings entries side-by-side with your primary household budget using our central tracker: Step 1: How to Track Your Spending.

If you need a hand pulling your routing numbers together, or want a Member Services Representative to coach you through your first micro-deposit verification, give our local Member Contact Center a shout at 325-677-2274 or 800-677-6770. We’re right here to keep your tech simple and your assets moving smoothly!
